Health Canada, Special Access Programme and Stiripentol

(you should no longer need this programme to access stiripentol)

When your doctor requests stiripentol through the Special Access Programme for your child, make sure they request it for the diagnosis of Dravet syndrome (severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy).
We have recently discovered that Dravet syndrome is not on the list of disorders likely to benefit from therapy including stiripentol. Severe myoclonic epilepsy of infancy (smei) is what it is listed as. While we work to get all the Dravet spectrum disorders listed for stiripentol, whenever you request access to the medication, or when you request assistance with acquiring the drug through your provinical ministries, make sure your doctor includes the name of the disorder as smei.
